An African flower – Marockan wedding between Chantelle & Ali – part 1

The African Flower

Today I would love to tell you a story of an African flower – the amazing wedding between Chantelle and Ali… (and for those of you who wonder why I´m all of a sudden writing in English – it´s for all of Ali´s and Chantelle´s friends and family who don´t speak Swedish…)

It was like a fairytale – something you´ve read in Thousand and one night… So different from anything I have experienced before, so amazing and wonderful that I was left with soreness in my cheeks from smiling from start to end…

I got the assignment, to document the Moroccan and Gambian wedding between Ali & Chantelle, from the Swedish wedding magazine “Bröllopsmagasinet”. Need I say I was absolutely thrilled and excited…

It was a two day event, starting off on Friday afternoon with a traditional party/ceremony where the bride (and all women) were getting floral decorations in Henna on hands and feet. Everywhere I looked there were beautiful women dressed in the most amazing colorful dresses, chanting, dancing, laughing and absolutely celebrating the couple. Music was load, and so was the feeling of happiness, love and joy!

The air was filled with a mixture of scents from the delicious Moroccan dishes being served at gigantic silver plates and the candles and incense burning. Driving home that night I had to pinch my arm several times to believe that it wasn´t just a dream. Need I say I was more than excited for the next day – the wedding day.

To be continued… (tomorrow)
